Borax, sodium borate, is a natural salt known for its use as a laundry booster. However, it has recently become more popular as an ingredient in homemade green cleaners. This is due to its ability to neutralize acids, loosen soils and stains, and deodorize. Borax also works well as a nontoxic mold and mildew remover on hard surfaces, but care should be used since borax is a mild bleaching agent.
