Superbug: The Fatal Menace of MRSA, by Maryn McKenna, is about the antibiotic-resistant form of staph called MRSA. While most people have heard of MRSA, the author brings to attention what has often been overlooked about this "superbug." She details some of the real lives of those who have battled with MRSA, as well as the history of its growing antibiotic resistance. Superbug gives examples of how MRSA has popped up outside of hospitals and into schools, prisons, farms, and even food. It cites some of the possible causes, such as antibiotic-raised farm animals, and poor prevention techniques such as handwashing. Finally, Superbug discusses what action should be taken to reduce MRSA cases. This thoroughly researched book may be of interest to anyone concerned about their own safety and their family's. 288 pages.
